"Dance": Try not to be a female

Clearly, this is not the summer to be a woman on "So You Think You Can Dance." Adding up the first two weeks, there were:

-- Twelve chances (six each week) to dump a man into the bottom three. Only one was dumped there.

-- Nine chances (five the first week, four the second) to dump a woman there. Five were dumped.

In the first week, Alexie Agdeppa was ousted; Cristina Santana and Melinda Sullivan survived. Tonight (Thursday), those two were in the bottom again, along with Robert Roldan. Cristina was sent home.

This is wildly disproportionate, yet I can't argue with it, because:

1) It's a great bunch of men this year, an average bunch of women.

2) Cristina's solos -- during the dance-for-survival bit -- are unimpressive. Mostly, she shimmies and shakes. I happen to like a good shimmy, but it doesn't get my dance vote.

3) For that matter, Melinda's tap solos are so-so. I know it's hard to do much during the silly, 30-second time limit, but these don't do much to save her.

4) Then there's the main reason I can't complain: As you may already know -- see previous blog -- I missed most of Wednesday's show because of a prolonged weather report.

Late in tonight's results show, my Fox station announced that it would rerun that "Dance" episode from 6-8 p.m. Friday (Jan. 25). In short, I can finally see it, after the votes have been counted and Cristina has been sent home. Thanks anyway.
