1) Winter Olympics opening ceremony, 2-5 p.m. ET; also, 8 p.m. and 12:38 a.m. First, we can see the ceremony live, at what is 8 p.m. in Italy. Then it reruns in primetime and again after Jimmy Fallon. We’ll expect music (including Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli) and spectacle (shown here is the 2022 opening) with more than 3,500 athletes from 93 countries.
2) The games begin. Even before that opening ceremony, figure-skaters start their team event. The early (short program) round is on the USA Network at 4 a.m. ET (rhythm dance), 5:35 (pairs) and 7:35 to 8:55 (women). Then they’re on NBC, from noon to 2 p.m. ET. Also, USA has curling at 8:55 a.m. and snowboarding from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
3) “Sheriff Country,” 8 p.m., CBS. A rerun offers the beat and worst of this first-season show. The best — a clever, light-of-day robbery leads to surprising twists. The worst — with the sheriff’s teen daughter as a murder suspect, there’s absurd behavior from most of the people around her.
4) “Boston Blue,” 9 and 10 p.m., CBS. These were the second and third episodes, with Danny expecting to return to New York. Then a murder case dropped in front of him (literally). It’s a strong story, with good characters … but tries to use all of them, requiring a clumsy plot detour. In the 10 p.m. rerun, Danny and Lena work with her former police partner.
5) Movies, Freeform. At 11 a.m. is “Princess Bride” (1987), the Rob Reiner romp that deftly mixes whimsy, action, fairy-tale romance and Andre the Giant. And at 6:30 and 9 p.m. are the third and fourth “Toy Story” films (2010 and 2019).
