Here’s an odd-couple pairing: Barack Obama and Larry David.

Here’s an odd-couple pairing: Barack Obama and Larry David.
One speaks of hope and “yes we can”; the other professes hopelessness and “we probably can’t.” Now they sort of have a show together.
“Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness” will debut at 9 p.m. June 26 on HBO. That’s a Friday, a night that has worked well for Bill Maher.
David (shown here) co-created and stars in the show. Obama isn’t necessarily in it, but Higher Ground (his company with his wife Michelle) is the production company.
David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” had 12 seasons on HBO, sprawled over 24 years. It was nominated for 55 Emmys (including 11 for best comedy series), but won only two, for editing and writing.
The new show is described as a sketch-comedy series. It’s co-created by Jeff Schaffer, who worked with David on the final four seasons of “Seinfeld” and the final five of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Schaffer also created “Dave’s World and “The League.”
This will surface in the summer of off-year elections, but there’s no word on whether it will be political. David has expressed a fondness for Sen. Bernie Sanders, whom he portrayed on “Saturday Night Live” … and whom he later learned (on “Finding Your Roots”) that he’s distantly related to.
