1) “Secrets of the Bees,” 8-10 p.m., National Geographic. The superb “Secrets” films, produced by James Cameron, have shown mega-creatures — whales and elephants and such. Now it goes micro, with great footage inside hives. Bertie Gregory shows us a fascinating web of duties, including scouts, workers and queens-in-waiting.
2) “Henry David Thoreau” conclusion, 9-10 p.m., PBS. At 30, Thoreau had finished his two years in a cabin, gathering thoughts about man and nature. Now he re-enters life. He tutors, writes and lectures. He works in the family’s pencil factor; he battles slavery and writes deep essays. Ken Burns’ terrific film profiles a complex and compelling life.
3) “Doc,” 9 p.m., Fox. Two potent episodes have transformed the show: Joan, fighting a degenerative disease, resigned; then Amy and her ex-husband had a wilderness crisis with their daughter. Now Joan chooses her successor; also, tensions build between Amy and her lover, Jake.
4) “NCIS,” 8 p.m., CBS. Fresh from its 500th episode, the show returns to normal — sort of. It’s Navy Week onshore; a stolen squad car flips, revealing a stabbed sajlor in the trunk. Chaos ensues.
5) More. At 8 p.m., Fox’s fun “Best Medicine” has the season’s second-to-last episode. A friendly delegation arrives from Norway; Dr. Best, not the friendly
type, is displeased. At 9, CBS’ “NCIS: Origins” sees Dr. “Ducky” Mallard return, trying to help exonerate Dr. Tango. At 10, ABC’s “RJ Decker” probes the targeting of a Little League coach’s family.
