Leaphorn leaps to LA in February

There’s good news for fans of tough, taut drama:
“Dark Winds” (shown here) will be back for its fourth season. It arrives earlier than usual (Feb. 15 on the AMC cable channel) and gets its three main characters back together.
Based on Tony Hillerman novels, the show has been produced by the late Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin, the “Games of Thrones” author. In each of its first three seasons, it had a 100-percent score among critics tabulated by Rotten Tomatoes. Read more…

Like the old days: Sunday titans collide

When TV was in its glory days, powerhouse dramas would collide – especially on Sundays.

Suddenly, Netflix has a trove of AMC dramas

For Netflix viewers, this is an unexpected bonanza.
On Monday (Aug. 19), they’ll suddenly add 13 series. Most are pretty good; some are sort of great.
All arrive from the AMC cable network, for a one-year stay on Netflix. That includes “Walking Dead” and Anne Rice tales (including “Interview With the Vampire,” shown here), plus others – “Dark Winds,” “Monsieur Spade” – that are less-known, but beautifully crafted.

“Reservation Dogs” returns, amid an FX surge

As we peek ahead to the third – and, alas, final – season of “Reservation Dogs” (shown here), thoughts emerge:
1) This may be as close as TV gets to a golden age for American Indian shows. There are only two of them, but they’re terrific. “Dark Winds” starts its season at 9 p.m. Sunday (July 30) on AMC (reaching AMC+ on Thursday, July 27); “Reservation Dogs” starts it 10-episode season Aug. 2 on Hulu.
2) Good shows leave too soon – voluntarily, no less. Bland ones seem to be forever.
3) Emmy voters are crazy.
4) The FX people keep giving us great moments. From the current “Justified” mini-series and “What We Do in the Shadows” to the upcoming “Breeders” and “Reservation Dogs”; the quality is extraordinary. But let’s go back: Read more…
