CBS’ fall shows? Wait until mid-October

If you’re already tired of summer TV, CBS has bad and good news.
The bad: The fall season won’t start (with “Matlock,” shown here)until Oct. 12; that’s two or three weeks later than usual for many networks.
The good: In the interim, there will be three straight Sundays of specials, plus an earlier start for reality and news shows. Read more…

Sussman (“Big Bang”) tries to save the world

Another “Big Bang” spin-off is coming, but not one you’d guess.
Forget about Sheldon or Leonard or Georgie or the rest. This is about Stuart, the comic-store guy.
And it propels Kevin Sussman (shown here) into stardom, after three decades in support.
“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” — coming sometime to HBO Max — is described by one of its creators (Zak Penn) as “a show that the ‘Big Bang Theory’ characters would watch.” Read more…

Best-bets for July 13: serious drama and silly fun

1) “Patience,” 8 p.m., PBS. Autistic actors have key roles here. That includes the superb Ella Maisy Purvis as Patience Evans; Connor Curren (shown here) as Billy, the leader of her autism support group; and everyone in the group. Now the focus moves to Billy, when his brother is reported as dead. It’s a thick, clever hour, with great work from Curren, Purvis and others. Read more…
