2) ESPYs, 8-11 p.m., ABC. Shane Gillis hosts, with a flurry of sports awards. That includes special ones for basketball great Oscar Robertson; Penn State volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, who won the championship while fighting breast cancer; and Los Angles firefighters, including soccer and swimming stars Erin Regan and David Walters.

3) “Big Brother,” 8-9:30 p.m., CBS. In a change this year, each of the Wednesday episodes will be 90 minutes. (Thursdays and Sundays, after last week’s openers, are an hour.) A “Hollywood Squares rerun follows.

4) “Human Footprint,” 9 p.m., PBS. After some fairly light episodes, this one turns dead-serious. It follows the elaborate steps to truck bees cross-country for their pollinating skills … and the problems that have brought their decline.

5) “Elsbeth,” 10 p.m., CBS. Don’t you hate it when you wake up on Halloween with a hangover, a haircut, a tattoo and a foggy notion that you have shot someone? That happens here to a former child star, vibrantly played by Brittany O’Grady. It’s a delight, one of the season’s best hours.
