1) “Patience” season-finale, 8 p.m., PBS. Over five episodes, Patience Evans (shown here) has transformed. Young and autistic, she burrowed in the police records section, rarely talking. Nurtured by Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf, she’s become a skilled crimesolver. Now Metcalf is barred from a case; the result is smartly written and perfectly played.
2) “Grantchester,” 9 p.m., PBS. Last week, Miss Scott finally said yes to Larry’s proposal. Now they try to hide it from everyone, because inter-office marriages are forbidden. That brings great moments, in an otherwise somber hour. We see the pain of Alphy, Leonard and members of a rock band.
3) Sharks ahoy: “Jaws” (1975) is at 7 p.m. on CW … “Sharkfest” continues on Nat Geo Wild … and Discovery launches its annual “Shark Week.” It has reruns all day and new hours at night, starting with a quirky one: At 8 p.m., Tom Bergeron hosts “Dancing With Sharks.” Five divers try to simulate underwater dances with the sharks.
4) “Nautilus,” 9 p.m., AMC, rerunning at 10:03. If you think sharks are an annoyance, imagine having a giant sea creature wrapped around your ship. That’s the beginning of this hour, which soon involves underwater volcanoes and a mass coma. It’s large and ambitious, but stretches on far too long.
5) “The Simpsons,” 8 p.m., Fox. Sundays are fun again on Fox, with lots of comedy reruns. This one has shorts with Springfield females. It’s followed by “Krapopolis”; they’re surrounded by fairly good episodes of “Animal Control” (7:30 and 9) and “Going Dutch” (stealing a tank, at 9:31). For more fun, Tom Hanks’ terrific “Big” (1988) is 8:30 on ABC.
