Best-bets for July 24: funny ghosts, solemn undead

1) “Revival,” 10 p.m., Syfy. At first, this juggled humor and horror; now it gets deeper and darker. One night in Wausau, Wis.; some of the dead revived. Most are benign, but people are freaked out. Now we see the sheriff’s daughters — one dead/revived, the other (a deputy, shown here) at the brink. There are surprises, plus strong moments for the sheriff (David James Elliott). Read more…

2) “Ghosts,” 9:30 p.m., CBS. First airing on Halloween night, this had the ghosts put Sam on a Salem-type trial. Most were doing it for fun … but the ominous Patience was dead-serious. That follows a funny “Georgie & Mandy,” as others try to ignore an argument over having another baby.

3) “The Hunting Party,” 8 p.m., NBC. Now that “Transplant” has ended its four-year run, NBC has nothing nearly as good to take its spot. Instead, it reruns the opening episode of this disappointing series. A prison explosion spills lots of nasty people (and lots of overwrought stories) into the world.

4) “The Quiz With Balls,” 8 p.m., Fox. After turning summer Thursdays into a cartoon night, Fox regresses, simply having game-show reruns. This one (New York vs. New Jersey) is sometimes fun, but flawed. The questions are wildly uneven, the answers are unclear and the contestants are overhyped. The excellent “1% Club” follows at 9.

5) “Celebrity Family Feud,” 8 p.m., ABC. Usually, just one person on a team is a celebrity. This time, however, Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette is with her younger brother David; they face Martina McBride’s family. A second episode has two more music stars, Patti LaBelle and Fantasia.
