SHERIFF COUNTRY (Fridays, 8:00-9:00 PM) stars Morena Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr of FIRE COUNTRY), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father, Wes (W. Earl Brown), who is an off-the-grid marijuana grower, and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter. SHERIFF COUNTRY is an expansion of the universe of the hit drama series FIRE COUNTRY. 2) “Resident Alien,” 10 p.m., USA and Syfy. The second-to-last episode in a terrific season starts with big trouble. Harry and the sheriff have raced into a mine tunnel, in search of the evil mantid … not realizing that it has actually taken over the body of the sheriff’s deputy.

3) “Chief of War,” Apple TV+. Here’s an epic, nine-part story, based on true events and written by Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, both direct descendants of people involved. Late in the 18th century, four Hawaiian kingdoms are at war; a former chief (Momoa) reluctantly re-joins. The start is visually stunning, but also brutally violent.

4) “My Oxford Year,” Netflix. After lots of Disney roles (including the “Descendants” films), Sofia Carson keeps expanding. Now she plays a student with a life-changing year abroad. That wraps a busy Netflix week, including a comedy (“Leanne”) and documentaries: “WWE: Unreal,” “Son of Sam Tapes” and “Trainwreck: Storm Area 51.”

5) “Happy’s Place,” 8 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. This comedy has some good moments, but these reruns focus on the worst characters: Gabby (“ladies night” at the bar), then Bella (in an early episode). Bobbie (Reba McEntire) sometimes salvages things, including a great rant in the second episode.
