1) U.S. Gymnastics Championships, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, NBC. Here are the women’s finals, a day after the men (6:30-9 p.m. ET Saturday, CNBC). If you prefer larger (much larger) athletes, it’s the first full week of the pro-football pre-season. The NFL Network has games at 7 and 10 p.m. ET Thursday; 7 Friday; 1 and 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1 and 4 Sunday.
2) “Resident Alien” season-finale, 10 p.m. Friday, USA and Syfy. One of TV’s best shows wraps a season that blends quirky humor and sci-fi crises. The show began with an alien killing the town doctor and assuming his body. His assignment was to kill all Earthlings … but he kind of likes them. With friends, he scrambles to stop another alien from finishing his job.
3) “American Ninja Warrior,” 8-10 p.m. today, NBC. The multi-week finals begin, in a revised set-up that has contestants side-by-side, in a bracket-style race. That leads to “Survival Mode”: In 2018, torrential rains hit a California area already weakened by wildfires. A mudflow descended on the upscale town of Montecito, killing 23, while others fled in the night.
4) “The 1% Club,” 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 p.m. Thursday, Fox. This has become Fox’s summer star, skillfully mixing clever questions and a fun host (Joel McHale) who can parry with interesting guests. This time, reruns surround a new episode Tuesday that includes frat brothers, a sexy soccer coach and a “Jeopardy” champ who insists he’ll lose.
5) “Good Cop/Bad Cop” return, 9 p.m. Wednesday, CW. If you missed this the first time, catch it now. This opener has a crackling-good script, sharply played. Leighton Meester plays a good cop, linking with her boss (her dad) and colleague (her brother), after a robbery goes bad. That follows “Family Law,” with a tennis player who wants to be unadopted.
6) Streaming. On Wednesday, logically enough, Netflix’s “Wednesday” starts its second season. The first drew 12 Emmy nominations, including best comedy and actress (Jenny Ortega, as a weird Addams Family offspring); it won four. Now it returns on the same night that Amazon Prime has “The Pickup,” an action film with Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson.
7) “Nexaca,” debut, 9 and 10 p.m. Thursday, FXX, rerunning at 11 and midnight. Created 102 years ago, Club Nexaca had years of greatness in Mexican soccer … and years of decline. Now Eva Longoria fronts a group that bought half of it. After her charming introduction, this Spanish-language series (with sub-titles) has a sharply filmed look at revival efforts.
8) “The Fixer” season-finale, 8-10 p.m. Friday, Fox. A three-week, six-hour season concludes with Marcus Lemonis (the Camping World CEO) offering advice to two more businesses. One is a clothing company emphasizing kindness; the other is a culinary space, with classes and retail. Hours are also rerun on the Fox Business Channel, at 8 p.m. Tuesdays.
9) “The Chicken Sisters” season-opener, 8 p.m. Sunday, Hallmark. The first season had estranged sisters with restaurants, battling in a reality show. This new season finds them re-united … until the show airs. Wendie Malick and Lea Thompson are matriarchs, with David James Elliott now arriving. Also Sunday: “The Gilded Age” season-finale is 9 p.m, on HBO.
10) “The Parent Trap” (1998), 8:02 p.m. Sunday, ABC. Disney (which owns ABC) continues resurrecting Lindsay Lohan’s career. It aired her 2003 “Freaky Friday” last Sunday, then opened her “Freakiest Friday” in theaters Friday. Now here’s Lohan’s movie debut; at 12, she played twins, scheming to reunite their parents, Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson.
