1) “The Rainmaker” debut, 10 p.m., USA Network. Adapting a 1995 John Grisham novel, this keeps only the basic notion — a young law-school grad (shown here) scrambles for work — and the names. It adds two upscale people — his girlfriend and a nemesis (John Slattery) — plus new cases and twists that are sort of fun and involving and Grisham-y.
2) “Stand Up to Cancer,” 8-9 p.m., ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, MTV, Lifetime, Comedy Central, HBO, more. Once every two years, networks link for a commercial-free hour of comments and perforamces. This onw has music by host Sheryl Crow, the Jonas Brothers, Brothers Osborne, Jon Pardi, Jelly Roll, Dan + Shay, Gavin DeGraw, CeCe Winans and more/
3) “Great America Recipe” finale, 9 p.m., PBS. It’s all-male finale, ranging afar. Coby Bailey is a hulking firefighter and Navy veteran from Louisiana, cooking with Cajun traditions. Rex Alba is a tiny physical therapist in Ohio, reflecting his native Philippines. Waigal Safi is a San Diego foster-care specialist, following Afghan traditions.
4) “Fire Country,” 9 p.m., CBS. In a rerun of the season-opener, it’s time for the wedding of Gabriela and Diego. Naturally, a helicopter promptly crashes, diverting the wedding party. That’s followed by a relatively poor episode of “NCIS: Sydney,” with a “pirate ship” jaunt gone bad.
5) Janet Leigh films, Turner Classic Movies. This all-day marathon covers rich variety. At 6 p.m. ET is the zesty musical “Bye Bye Birdie” (1963) … at 8 is the Hitchcock classic “Psycho” (1960) … and at 10 is the restored and re-edited version of Orson Welles’ powerful crime film, “Touch of Evil” (1958).
