Best-bets for Sept. 28: mysteries end, cartoons begin

1) “Unforgotten” finale, 10 p.m., PBS. This six-parter has had a deep tangle of suspects. The victim was a hateful and hated man — a cruel boss, landlord, husband, father and more. Now Sunny (shown here) and Jesse reach a jolting discovery. Also ending are “Professor T” and “The Marlow Murder Club,” at 8 and 9; they have stories that are smart, but much gentler than “Unforgotten.”

2) “The Simpsons” season-opener, 8 p.m., Fox. The 37th season begins — far and away a record for scripted, primetime shows — with the focus on Lisa. When she wears her mother’s clothes from the ’90s, she’s suddenly considered a fashionista, mastering vintage looks. Then things get out of hand.

3) “Bob’s Burgers” season-opener, 9:30 p.m., Fox. As the 16th season starts, we get a flashback to the birth of the restaurant. Linking with a mournful song by the kids nowadays, it’s mostly very funny. It follows two fairly fun concepts — Mark as hockey coach in “Universal Basic Guys” and the world’s first democratic election in “Krapopolis.”

4) “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” 9 p.m., AMC; reruns at 10:12. Against the backdrop of an ancient Spanish fortress, the show has an epic battle scene. That’s alongside a Romeo-and-Juliet type tale of forbidden love. This is sort of what Shakespeare would write, if he knew about zombies,

5) ALSO: CBS’ “Big Brother” season-finale is 8:30 p.m. (but 8 on the West Coast), after the season-opener of “60 Minutes.” ABC has the season-openers of “America’s Funniest Videos” at 7 p.m. and the Disney movie at 8. The latter is “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3” (2023), a terrific light adventure.
