1) “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946), 3, 6 and 9 p.m., E. Each Christmas Eve, NBC airs this classic. If you can’t wait until then, catch it today. James Stewart (shown here) plays a small-town banker, despairing about his life. A guardian angel offers a tour of a world with or without him.
2) “The Waltons Homecoming” (2021), 8-10 p.m., CW. Here’s some more holiday warmth, as a family prepares for Christmas — and for the dad’s return from his out-of-town job. Then a fierce storm strikes. Logan Shroyer (the young Kevin in “This Is Us”) plays John-Boy, with Bellamy Young as his mom. Richard Thomas, the original John-Boy, narrates.
3) “Midsomer Murders” season-opener, www.acorn.tv. In its own, quiet way, this is one of the best British mysteries. Now its 25th season offers a movie-length tale oneach of the next four Mondays. This opener has “mudlarkers” probing for river-bed artifacts, for history or for profit.
4) “Celebrity Weakest Link” season-finale, 9 p.m., Fox. This has had some clever ideas for its eight contestants. (Tonight, they’re all “TV doctors” — either a real doctor or an actor who has played one.) Still, the concept doesn’t work: “Weakest Link” needs intense competition; you don’t get that with a bunch of celebrities playing for charity.
5) “Password” special, 10 p.m., NBC. Jimmy Fallon’s game show adds some holiday touches. That’s preceded by “St. Denis Medical” at 8 (a seemingly selfless patient draws opposite reactions), a funny “The Paper” at 8:30 (a dating hoax snags Esmeralda) and “The Voice” play-offs at 9.
