2) “Bookish,” 10 p.m., PBS. Last week’s opener was chaotic. A pharmacist was killed … bodies were found at a demolition site … and a young ex-con was perplexed by the interest of a bookseller named Book. In tonight’s fairly good hour, the first two mysteries are solved; the last is left hanging, for no logical reason. The next two two-part stories are better.

3) “Miss Scarlet” and “All Creatures Great and Small,” 8 and 9 p.m., PBS. First, Eliza Scarlet does a rare bit of undercover work, while searching for a racehorse. Then “All Creatures” follows up on last week’s splendid hour, which included the end of World War II. We’re back to pleasant, everyday stories — a new-fangled X-ray machine and a muddy mystery.

4) Football. On the eve of the college football championship, here are pro games. It’s Texas-Patriots at 3 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN, then Rams-Bears at 6:30 on NBC and Peacock. Next week, the winners face Saturday’s winners, for spots in the Super Bowl.

5) MORE: In a night of reruns, Fox has excellent episodes of “Best Medicine,” “Doc” and “Animal Control” at 7, 8 and 9:02 p.m., plus a so-so “Going Dutch” at 8. CBS has an interesting “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist” (gullible people spur the death of a husband and wife, both named Billy) at 8, with “Tracker” (escaped psychiatric patient) at 9.
