For fans of PBS mysteries, this will be a double-farewell year.
“Miss Scarlet” has announced that it will have one final, six-episode season, its seventh. That will apparently air shortly after “Grantchester” has its 11th and final seasons.
Both fit under the “cozy mystery” category that many PBS and British viewers prefer. They’re period pieces, solved by people who maintain their decorum, even when surrounded by murder and such.
“Miss Scarlet” stars Kate Phillips (shown here) as (at first) London’s only female detective. As last season ended, she came into fame, money and a chance to hire some female colleagues.
Along the way, her co-star has changed, causing the original title (“Miss Scarlet and the Duke”) to be jettisoned.
“Grantchester” has needed more such switches :It’s had three different stars, each playing a crime-solving vicar.
