Best-bets for July 17: warfare in Cuba, Troy and beyond

1) “American Experience: JFK” (2013), 9-11 p.m., PBS. The first half of this terrific film saw John Kennedy (shown here), nearly crippled by ailments, pull off upset victories to become the country’s youngest president. 1) “American Experience: JFK” (2013), 9-11 p.m., PBS. The first half of this terrific film saw John Kennedy (shown here), nearly crippled by ailments, pull off upset victories to become the country’s youngest president. Now comes the hard part — Bay of Pigs, Cuban missile crisis and the Vietnam build-up.

2) “Best Romcoms Ever,” 8-10 p.m., CW. Here’s a cruise through the leading romantic-comedy movies, complete with with clips and interviews. It’s on a night when two-person romances seem almost quaint: At 8 p.m., the Lifetime Movie Network has a film about a “throuple” (three-way); at 9:45, WeTV wraps its series about “poly” (multiple) romance.

3) “Fire Country,” 9 p.m., CBS. This reruns the Feb. 27 episode, a good one that brought the show back from a two-month break. It flashes between tough decisions during a wildfire and a probe afterward. That’s surrounded by reruns of “Sheriff Country” and “Boston Blue,” at 8 and 10.

4) “Troy” (2004), 4:30-8 p.m., AMC. On the day that the epic “Odyssey” reaches theaters, here’s another film covering part of that turf. It drew mixed reviews, with praise mostly for director Wolfgang Petersen’s epic visuals and for Brad Pitt as Achilles. A much-more-honored film, Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), follows at 8.

5) More movies. Spielberg’s first Indiana Jones films (1981 and ’84) are at 5:40 and 8:20 p.m. on Freeform. Other classics are the Coen brothers’ “O Brother, Where Art Thou” (2000), at 7:45 on TNT, and Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” (1989), at 8 on VH1. Also, HBO has “Ocean’s Eight” (2018) at 7:05, leading into “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness” at 9.
