1) “Scrubs” season-openers, 8 and 8:30 p.m., ABC. Half-hour comedies are scarce now. This is the first broadcast-network one (cartoons excluded) with new episodes this fall. It juggles the serious — Dr. Cox has an incurable autoimmune condition — and the fun: Elliot (second from right) finds fresh confidence; J.D. (second from left) schemes an insurance workaround.
2) “The Amazing Race” opener, 9:30-11 p.m., CBS. The 25,000-mile, nine-country race starts in Vancouver, with 13 duos. There are three couples (two married, one dating), four sibling sets and more. That includes a Marine officer and her mother, a med student and her father, a college student and his grandfather, a 73-year-old retired fire chief.
3) More reality. ABC’s “Shark Tank” opens at 9 and 10 p.m. and others have their second episodes. Fox has “The Floor” at 8 and “99 to Beat” (now with 83 to beat) at 9. CBS has “Survivor” from 8-9:30, with someone trying a move that hasn’t been done in the 50 previous seasons. And the reality of the baseball play-offs is on NBC, NBC Sports Network and Peacock.
4) “Ages of Ice” finale, 10 p.m., PBS. Early in this hour, there’s stunning footage of life — abundant and colorful — on Antarctica’s ocean bottom. Then this goes to tinier subjects — micro-beings that can destroy or enrich the world. Scientists get glimpses of what they may find someday on ice planets.
5) “Unmasking a Monster: Aileen Wuornos,” 8-11 p.m., Investigation Discovery. A prostitute convicted of killing six of her clients, Wuornos has been played by Jean Smart, Charlize Theron, Sarah Paulson and more. This film mixes re-creations with source material, including two detectives who worked the case, 30-plus years ago.
