1) “Marshals” season-opener, 8:30 p.m., CBS (but 8 p.m. on the West Coast). Other networks began earlier, but CBS held its scripted shows until now. It has 14 of them in the next six days (including “Tracker” at 9:30 today), starting here: Kayce likes Dolly Weaver (they’re shown here), but hates her dad, who wants to buy his ranch. The result is high-octane and lethal.
2) “Trespasses,” 10 p.m., PBS. In the midst of the Irish “troubles,” a Catholic teacher and a Protestant lawyer (who defends Catholics) are both passionate and tentative. It’s a brooding story — did we mention it’s Irish? — perfectly played by Lola Petticrew, Gillian Anderson (as her mom) and Tom Cullen. And a sudden jolt at the end sets up next week’s finale.
3) “Marlow Murder Club” and “Marble Hall Murders,” 8 and 9 p.m., PBS. Two more stories set up next week’s finales. “Marlow” wrapped a so-so two-parter last week, but now starts a good one involving a celebrity chef. And “Marble” probes the recent death of a young author — and a death in his novel, offering a clue to the murder of his grandmother.
4) “Animal Control,” 7 and 8:30 p.m., Fox. First is a rerun of last week’s season-opener; it has some good moments, but isn’t up to the show’s usual high standards. Then a new episode finds people scrambling to convince Patel’s daughter she’s in a bad relationship. That follows “Simpsons” at 8, with Bart and Lisa adopting a chimp.
5) ALSO: Movies include “Cruella” (with gorgeous visuals redeeming a weak plot) at 8:02 p.m. on ABC and the terrific, real-life “All the President’s Men,” at 8 ET on Turner Classic Movies. “Lanterns” has its finale at 9 on HBO. And a sports overload has the baseball playoffs plus pro football.
