2) “’Little Mermaid’ Live,” 8-10 p.m., ABC. It’s not live this time, but it is an interesting concept. The 1989 animated movie, was shown to an audience. When it was time for music, singers stepped out. Auli’i Cravalho had the title role, with support from Queen Latifah, Shaggy and Graham Phillips.

3) “Elf” (2003), 7 and 9 p.m., AMC. It’s Will Ferrell night on cable. At 8:45 p.m., Comedy Central has “Wedding Crashers” (2005), a bright and fun film that has Ferrell showing up (uncredited) at the end … just as he does in the delightful “LEGO Movie.” Then there’s “Elf,” a perfect role for Ferrell – playing a wide-eyed innocent inside a 6-foot-3 frame. Startled that he’s not a real elf, he leaves the North Pole and finds life’s pleasures (Zooey Deschanel is charming in support) and dangers.

4) More Christmas. NBC reruns its “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Trolls” specials at 8 and 8:30 p.m. There are also lots of movies, including new ones – at 7 p.m., “Best Christmas Ball Ever” on Ion; at 8. “Holiday Date” on Hallmark and “A Christmas Winter Song” (starring Ashanti) on Lifetime.

5) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Yes, there are shows unrelated to Christmas. “SNL” has Scarlett Johansson hosting and Niall Horan as music guest. Also, Fox reruns its most recent “Masked Singer” hours at 8 and 9 p.m., trimming the field from six to three for Wednesday’s finale. There are also some terrific movies – “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” (2011) at 8 p.m. on Starz and “Gone With the Wind” (1939) and “Gandhi” (1982) at 4 and 8 p.m. ET on Turner Classic Movies.
