1) “Malcolm X” (1992), 4:30 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies. During Black History Month, TCM is stuffing Saturdays with key films. That starts with Denzel Washington (shown here) in Spike Lee’s richly crafted epic. It’s followed by the comedy “Cooley High” (1975) at 8 and the moving drama “Sounder” (1972) at 10. There’s more ahead, led by “A Soldier’s Story” on Feb. 11 and “In the Heat of the Night” and “To Sleep With Anger” on Feb. 18.
2) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29, NBC. It’s the third straight new episode, each with a first-time host. This one has Pedro Pascal, star of three series – “Narcos,” “The Mandalorean” and HBO’s current “The Last of Us.” Also, there’s music from Coldplay.
3) Basketball, all day, Fox. The game is gobbling large chunks of network time. Today, Fox has games at noon ET (Michigan State-Rutgers), 2:30 (Illinois-Iowa), 5 (St. Johns-Xavier) and 7:30 (Villanova-Creighton). ESPN tops that with five games – noon and 2, 6:30, 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. ESPN2 has three, CBS Sports Network has two … and ABC has the pros, with Dallas-Golden State at 8:30.
4) “Gwen Shamblin: Starving for Salvation,” 8-10:30 p.m., Lifetime. Shamblin had a master’s degree in nutrition and five years’ experience in public health programs. Then she drew controversy by mixing weight-loss with religion. At its peak, her program was in 6,000 churches – including one she started herself. Then her private jet crashed, killing Shamblin and her second husband (Joe Lara, who had been a TV Tarzan) and five others. Jennifer Grey stars.
5) More movies: You can go with action heroes: TNT has “Wonder Woman” (2017) at 6:30 p.m.,, with its sequel (2020) at 9:30. The Paramount Network has “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) at 1 p.m., with sequels at 3:30 and 6 – then repeats them at 8:30 and 11 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Or catch animation on Freeform, peaking with “Beauty and the Beast” (1991) at 5:45 p.m., “Minions” (2015) at 7:50 and “Inside Out” (2015) at 9:55.
