1) College football season-openers. Most teams start next week, but there are exceptions, including five games today on national TV. The first has Kansas State (shown here last season) and Iowa State, ranked No. 17 and 22 in a pre-season poll, in Dublin (yes, that’s in Ireland) at noon ET on ESPN.

2) More football. It’s Fresno State-Kansas at 6:30 p.m. on Fox and Sam Houston-West Kentucky at 7 on the CBS Sports Network. Then two games start at 7:30: CBS has Stanford at Hawaii; ABC has the annual opener for historically Black schools; this time it’s North Carolina Central and Southern.

3) “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” (1993) and “The Princess Bride” (1987), 5:30 and 8 p.m., BBC America, repeating at 10 and 12:30. Here are Cary Elwes films, directed by two comedy masters. “Tights” (inconsistent, but funny) is from Mel Brooks. “Bride” (consistently terrific) is from Rob Reiner, the son of Brooks’ old comedy partner, Carl Reiner.

4) “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Steven Spielberg’s superb trilogy is at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m. on the Paramount Network, rerunning at 8, 10:35 and 1:25. For more movie greatness, there’s “The Godfather” and “Pulp Fiction,” at 6 and 9 p.m. on Showime. For light fun, “Come September” and “Strange Bedfellows” are at 8 and 10 ET on Turner Classic Movies.

5) “Clueless” (1995), 8:15 p.m., IFC. Alicia Silverstone masters opposite characters. In this fun film, she’s a giddy teen. “Irish Blood,” at 10:30, starts with a wonderfully cynical monolog. That opens a fairly good, six-part mini-series; you can catch the whole thing on www.acorn.tv.
