Best-bets for Aug. 29: orchestral beauty, legal dismay

1) Vienna Philharmonic, 9 p.m., PBS. Filmed shortly after an Austrian school shooting, this starts with 12 solemn minutes. Then conductor Tugan Sokhiev packs a dozen vibrant pieces into the next 70 minutes, performed amid the beauty of a palace grounds (shown here). 2) “The Rainmaker,” 10 p.m., USA. Rudy still hasn’t told his mom that he was fired by the upscale law firm. Now he battles that firm in court, with his girlfriend on the opposite side. His concerns range from passing the bar exam to finding two nurses — one hiding and the other dangerous. It’s a strong hour.

3) Football. Saturday will bring the season’s first full line-up. First, here are some early-starters: At 8 p.m. ET, Fox has Auburn at Baylor and ESPN has Georgia Tech at Colorado. Also, Fox Sports1 has a doubleheader — Western Michigan at Michigan State at 7, Central Michigan at San Jose State at 10:30.

4) “Happy’s Place,” 8 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. In the first rerun, Steve dares to quit his therapy sessions; in the second, people push a romance between Bobbie and Emmett … played by Reba McEntire and Rex Linn, a couple in real life. That wraps the first season; the second is still 10 weeks away.

5) “Blue Bloods,” 10 p.m., CBS. This has finished its 14-year run, but a spin-off — with Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) in Boston — is still seven weeks a way. To get us ready, CBS reruns some key episodes. This one has a hospital shooting that involves his wife, a nurse. Danny seethes and goes after the shooter, as others try to rein him in.
