Best-bets for Oct. 1: Chicagos and comedies

1) “Chicago P.D.” season-opener, 10 p.m., NBC. Easily the best of the three Chicago shows, this has another tough, propulsive hour. The unit has been disbanded and Voight is on Rapid Response duty. 1) “Chicago P.D.” season-opener, 10 p.m., NBC. Easily the best of the three Chicago shows, this has another tough, propulsive hour. The unit has been disbanded and Voight is on Rapid Response duty. He soon finds a reason to re-assemble his colleagues and to add a terrific new one (shown here).

2) “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med” season-openers, 8 and 9 p.m., NBC. Juggling lots of stories — from life-and-death to attempts at lightness — both shows remain uneven but interesting. “Med” finds lives in tumult for the staff (Jessy’s pregnancy, Caitlin’s disease) and the patients. “Fire” ranges from a cocky new driver to a dangerous budget crisis.

3) “Shifting Gears” and “Abbott Elementary” season-openers, 8 and 8:30, ABC. Matt (Tim Allen) ponders his love-hate relationship with Eve (Jenna Elfman). That’s in an episode that has Allen’s former “Home Improvement” co-stars, Richard Karn and Patricia Richardson. Then the much-honored “Abbott” begins with the start of a school year.

4) “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent,” 8 p.m., CW. Four people are killed in an upscale apartment. But which of them were the actual target? Soon, a long-ago mystery is tied in. It’s a solid, involving hour — followed by a fairly good “Wild Cards” rerun, with a ranch the ripples with schemes.

5) ALSO: This season, Wednesdays will again be stuffed with reality and games. Today, CBS’ “The Amazing Race” moves into its 9:30 slot, after “Survivor.” ABC’s “The Golden Bachelor” moves to 9 p.m., leading into “Shark Tank.” And Fox continues “The Floor” and “99 to Beat” at 8 and 9.

ALSO: Baseball’s play-offs continue, with the second game of best-of-three series. ESPN has Tigers-Guardians at 1 p.m. ET, Red Sox-Yankees at 6 and Reds-Dodgers at 9; ABC has Padres-Cubs at 3. If any of those end up with one win apiece, they’ll have the deciding game Thursday.
