1) “Elsbeth,” 8-11 p.m., CBS. With the season-opener coming up Oct. 12, we get a three-rerun blitz. The first two are excellent — Vanessa Williams as an upscale jewelry customer, Eric McCormack leading a “wellness” camp. The third (shown here) brings a shoddy ending to the story that had Michael Emerson (husband of series star Carrie Preston) as a corrupt judge.
2) “9-1-1,” 8-11 p.m., ABC. Here’s another rerun blitz, in this case a week before the series opener. The first hour has a fire at an animal shelter, the third a fire at a mega-church (where Bobby sees his estranged mother). In the second, Chimney finds his daughter alone, with Maddie missing.
3) “English Teacher,” 9, 9:31 and 10:05; reruns start at 10:36. This is often hilarious and occasionally repetitious, with Evan forever jumping into everone’s business, even contradicting himself. (“This is literally the opposite of what you said yesterday,” a student says.) Some of that is pointed out in the strong ending to tonight’s middle episode.
4) “Hell’s Kitchen,” 8 p.m., Fox. It’s time for the first dinner service … and for a tradition: Gordon Ramsay shouting, screaming and closing it down without the diners getting their meals. Two questions: a) Why does this keep happening?; and b) Why would anyone book an opening-night reservation?
5) “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” 10 p.m., NBC. It’s a double night for Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). At 9 p.m. is her own show, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”; then she helps here, looking for the sex worker called Sad Eyes, while Stabler recovers from injuries.
ALSO: In the baseball playoffs, three of the match-ups have their deciding games today. ABC has the Tigers-Guardians at 3 p.m. ET; then ESPN has Padres-Cubs at 5 and Red Sox-Yankees at 8.
