1) “Boston Blue” debut, 10 p.m., CBS. After 14 years of “Blue Bloods,” CBS isn’t ready to lose a good thing. So Danny (Donnie Wahlberg, shown here) heads to Boston (Wahlberg’s home town), where his son is a cop. He soon meets a large and tangled police/courts family like his own. This opener is too busy, but it’s also well-crafted by gifted director Anthony Hemingway, offering a rich blend of warmth and intensity.
2) “Sheriff Country” debut, 9 p.m., CBS. This starts with a great character — Morena Baccarin as Mickey, a no-nonsense local cop, elevated to sheriff. Then it piles way too many stories into the first hour, including a bloody cliffhanger. You’ll like Mickey a lot, while having misgivings about the rest.
3) “Mr. Scorsese,” Apple TV+. Here’s a five-hour profile of movie master Martin Scorsese. It wraps up a streaming week that has the season-openers of “Loot” (Apple), “The Diplomat” (Netflix) and “Solar Opposites” (Hulu), plus two eight-part, true-crime documentaries, about Alex Murdaugh (Hulu) and John Wayne Gacy (Peacock).
4) Art & Science Collide,” 10 p.m., PBS. After an opening that’s way too long (five-plus minutes) and repetitive, we get a look at the creations for vast art/science displays. Some of the talk is blandly conceptual, but we sometimes meet interesting people: A Sitting Bull descendant savors science fiction; an Iraq refugee tried to assimilate in Sweden.
5) ALSO: At 8 p.m., NBC’s “On Brand with Jimmy Fallon” works with Pillsbury and its Doughboy character. At the same time, CBS’ “Fire Country” opens its season, an hour earlier than usual. There’s turmoil in the firehouse — until everyone links for a tough rescue.
