1) “Boston Blue,” 10 p.m., CBS. With his son (a Boston cop) out of the hospital, Danny Donnie Wahlberg, shown here with Gloria Reuben and Sonequa Martin-Green) plans to return to New York soon. Then a murder case drops in front of him … literally. This hour reflects the show’s strengths — good characters, twisty story, action — and a flaw: With so many regulars, it tries to include everyone; that requires a clumsy plot detour.
2) “Sheriff Country,” 8 p.m., CBS. Last week’s debut ended with teen-aged Skye in tears and blood. Now everyone tries to take take control — her mom, the sheriff; her divorced dad, a lawyer; her grandfather, a drug dealer; and more. The result, continuing in future weeks, is high-stakes and chaotic.
3) World Series opener, 8 p.m. ET, Fox; pre-game at 7. After sweeping the National League series in four games, the Dodgers head to Toronto to face the Bluejays — who needed seven games in the American League series. This continues Saturday, then moves to Los Angeles on Monday and Tuesday; it needed, there are games Wednesday and Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
4) “Being Texan,” 9 p.m., PBS. Here are visual versions of stories from the Texas Monthly magazine. Some are tough — wildfires, an arrest for braiding without a license — and others have quiet charm. Catch the last surviving nine-pin bowling alleys … a former ghost town, upset by an influx of vacationers … a retired librarian, 95, who helped save a wilderness.
5) MORE: “On Brand With Jimmy Kimmel” has its final episodes, at 8 p.m. today (a KitchenAid web series) and next Friday on NBC. “Fire Country” returns to its 9 p.m. slot on CBS. And Netflix has the thriller “A House of Dynamite,” one day after the return of the comedy “Nobody Wants This.”
