Best-bets for Nov. 16: A masterful epic begins

(Here are the five TV best-bets for Sunday, Nov. 16; feel free to use in any form — all or some, print and/or web)

1) “The American Revolution” opener, 8 p.m. PBS; repeats at 10. Ken Burns’ masterful film opens with 13 colonies having little in common — until they’re linked by a hatred of British taxes. This first (of six) chapters takes us through Lexington, Concord and the siege of Boston. Some Englishmen expected a quick, easy war; it would take eight brutal years.

2) “Tracker,” 8:30 p.m., CBS (but 8 p.m. PT). Four teens disappear while hiking the Santa Cruz Mountains. Colter soon finds they had a hidden agenda; he also finds a dangerous, off-the-grid community. That’s followed by a new “The Road” and a “Boston Blue” rerun.

3) “Montana Mavericks,” 8-10 p.m., CW. This starts a series of six Sunday movies based on Harlequin novels. Katherine McNamara — an action-tale favorite via “Shadowhunters,” “Arrow” and the “Walker: Independence” cowboy show — plays a big-city author who inherits a ranch. She goes there to sell it and (surprise?) meets a guy.

4) “Talamasca,” 9 p.m., AMC, rerunning at 10. Early on, there’s a long, brutal confrontation between Guy and Jasper. Later, we meet Doris, the quiet witch with fire-starter skills. In between are the sort of semi-details that make the show often ntriguing and sometimes imperceptible.

5) ALSO: At 8 p.m., “The Simpsons” sees Bart run against the mayor’s son, for student council president. At 8:32, ABC has Reese Witherspoon in “Sweet Home Alabama” (2002). And at 9, Bravo has highlights of “BravoCon,” a fan festival (hosted by Andy Cohen) that also is full-length on Peacock.
