1) “The Paper,” 8:30 p.m., NBC. In last week’s opener, Ned took over a sagging Toledo newspaper, planning to slowly nudge along its makeshift staff. Now Esmeralda sabotages that by canceling the wire services; these novices (shown here with Ned) must learn quickly. It’s a funny start for the show, which has already streamed on Peacock.
2) More comedies. The networks only have 10 situation comedies now, but four of them are wedged into this hour. At 8:30, CBS’ witty “DMV” goes against “The Paper.” At 8, NBC has “St. Denis Medical” (Ron and Bruce at a doctors’ convention) adnd CBS has “The Neighborhood,” with Calvin getting an unexpected honor from the City of Pasadena.
3) “The American R evolution,” 8 p.m., PBS, rerunning at 10. This begins with what a historian calls “four of the most awful hours of combat in military history.” The British gain Bunker Hill, but at an awesome cost. Later, Americans flounder in Canada, then make this official: They declare independence (overlooking slaves) and prepare for bigger battles.
4) “Finding Mr. Christmas” and “Baked With Love: Holiday,” 8 and 9 p.m., Hallmark. These competitions continue through Dec. 15. It’s the second season for “Mr. Christmas” (choosing the star of a Hallmark movie) and the first for “Baked.”
5) ALSO: At 9 p.m., NBC’s “The Voice” continues its “knockouts” … CBS’ “FBI” chases the gang that robbed a community clinic … Fox’s “The Weakest Link” has contestants who have previously worked with host Jane Lynch … and CW’s “TV We Love” has “Dynasty,” which was sometimes hard to love.
