1) “The American Revolution” finale, 8 p.m., PBS, rerunning at 10:11. Both sides had thought a British victory was inevitable. Now life flips: Washington makes false documents, saying he’ll attack New York; then he lets them be stolen. Instead, he marches South, joining the French navy to trap the enemy and (depicted here) triumph. Soon, an epic war — and a brilliant Ken Burns documentary — conclude.
2) “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Wizard of Oz” (1939), 7:30 and 8 p.m., TNT. Two of the all-time greats are back-to-back. First is Chuck Jones’ clever animation of a superb Dr. Seuss tale, with Thurl Ravenscroft booming the song. Then it’s magic, music and Judy Garland; “Oz” is No. 10 on the American Film Institute’s all-time list.
3) “Stumble,” 8:30 p.m., NBC. It’s time for the first football game … giving the cheer team something to actually cheer about. Meanwhile, the show leaps through topics, including menstruation, pregnancy and stealing a teammate’s car. Some jokes get too broad, but others are quick and funny.
4) “Fire Country,” 9 p.m., CBS. Christine Lahti is a gifted actress who has an Emmy, five more nominations, an Oscar nomination and even an Oscar as a short-film director. She’ll be in the next two episodes as Sharon’s mother. Now a fire at a favorite restaurant brings back Bode’s memories of his father.
5) More dramas, CBS. It’s crossover time. On “Sheriff Country,” at 8, Manny (from “Fire Country”) helps with a murder probe. On “Boston Blue,” at 10, Maria Baez helps Danny (her former “Blue Bloods” police partner) catch a serial home invader.
