1) “American Masters” 9-10:30 p.m., PBS. Sun Ra (shown here) proclaimed he was an angel from Saturn. His concerts matched that mystical feel, merging jazz, dance, poetry and pageantry. In truth, he was Sonny Blount; he had his own big band as a Memphis teen, was disowned by family and friends after resisting World War II, then created a fascinating persona.
2) Winter Olympics. The men’s hockey tournament reaches its semi-finals, with coverage at 11:50 a.m. ET on the USA Network and 3:10 p.m. on NBC. There’s much more (strong on speed skating) all day on USA and noon to 5 p.m. on NBC, which then repackages the day from 8-10:30 p.m. Also, the men’s curling bronze-medal game is 5-8 p.m. on CNBC.
3) “Stumble,” 10:30 p.m., NBC. Tucked into a small corner of the Olympic coverage, here’s a kinda-fun comedy. This makeshift cheer team has been desperate to qualify for the nationals. Now it must submit a “skills tape,” despite this being finals week … and the team having limited skills.
4) “This Is UFC,” 8 p.m., CBS. Here’s a look at the Ultimate Fighting Championship, a mixed martial arts group on Paramount+ (CBS’ corporate partner). “Survivor” and “Hollywood Squares” reruns follow at 9 and 10:30.
5) ALSO: “The Last Thing He Told Me,” an excellent Jennifer Garner mini-series, didn’t really need a sequel. Here it is, though, starting today on Apple. Also, Turner Classic Movies has superb duos — Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman in “Driving Miss Daisy” at 8 p.m.ET, Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise in “Rain Man” at 10. Tandy, Hoffman and both film won Oscars.
