1) “NCIS: New York” debut, 9 p.m., CBS. For 342 episodes, LL Cool J, has played NCIS agent Sam Hanna in California and Hawaii. Now (shown here) Sam returns to his home town of New York. “Hasn’t changed much,” he says, amid a gun battle. After a dazzling little solo mission, he meets his new colleagues; the pairing with Scott Caan is excellent.
2) “American Masters,” 9 p.m. Tuesday, PBS. Growing up in migrant camps, Luis Valdez did puppet shows. As an adult, he organized camp shows mixing music, comedy and protest. He went on to Broadway, movies (including the hit “La Bamba”) and more. Here’s an intriguing profile, including Valdez, 86, union leader Dolores Huerta, 96, and more.
3) “Best Medicine,” 8 p.m., Fox. After two terrific episodes, the show settles for one that’s kinda fun, but way too silly. It includes a weird dash across floating crates, plus a diagnosis (soon explained) of three men who test positive for pregnancy. That’s followed by “Doc,” with medical cases stirring up memories about relationships.
4) “The Voice,” 8-10 p.m., NBC. This is mostly a sports night for NBC — baseball last Tuesday, basketball starting Oct. 20. But for the next couple weeks, “Voice” audtions take over; a “Traitors” rerun is at 10.
5) “NCIS” and “NCIS: Origins,” 8 and 10 p.m., CBS. Both shows bring back past stars for full-season runs. On “NCIS,” it’s Michael Weatherly as Tony DiNozzo, who has a private security firm. On “Origins,” it’s Mark Harmon: Wrapping through the season will be a case involving Leroy Gibbs now (Harmon) and in 1992 (Austin Stowell).
