2) “Chicago Fire” season-opener, 9 p.m., NBC. Last season’s finale left the husband-wife duo of Severide and Kidd in danger. He was trapped in a blazing warehouse with Mouch; she was trying to descend from the roof with Hermann. If the couple survives, other key decisions loom, including whether he’ll take the job as station chief.

3) “Chicago Med” and “Chicago P.D.” season-openers, 8 and 10 p.m., NBC. There are exits and maybe-exits: LaRoyce Hawkins, who has been Atwater for all 13 “P.D.” seasons, is leaving, with others coming in. And S. Epatha Merkerson has been Goodwin, the “Med” boss, for all 11 seasons; she fights for her job, while colleagues deal with a wedding shooting.

4) “Nova: Space Wars,” 9 p.m., PBS. The wars haven’t started yet, but this strong documentary gives us plenty to think about. The skies are filled with satellites from nations and from private companies; an attack on some could create chaos. Here’s a detailed and involving overview.

5) “Matilda” (1996), 8-10 p.m., Syfy. Danny DeVito did triple duty perfectly, as director, villain and narrator. This adapts a Roald Dahl book (which later became a Broadway musical) into a dark gem, brightened by young Mara Wilson. That’s followed by “The Ark,” with the homebase problem detected.
