2) Football. Baseball’s big night clashes with a college-football line-up that has few collisions between ranked teams. Key exceptions: Mississippi (ranked No. 7) at Texas (No. 19), at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Then Houston (No. 14) at Utah (No. 10), at 10:15 on ESPN.

3) “American Graffiti” (1973), 5:45 p.m. ET, Turner Classic Movies; or “Aliens” (1986), 7 p.m., BBC America. Two great films overlap. “Graffiti” is George Lucas’ early gem about a busy summer night for California teens. “Aliens” is James Cameron’s sci-fi gem; it may be (except for the second “Godfather”) the best movie sequel ever.

4) More movies: Alongside the Halloween-time barrage, there are plenty of gems. Try Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo and Juliet” (with great work from Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio) at 6 p.m. on HBO. Or “City Slickers,” at 6:30 on Pop. Or “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” at 7:30 on FX. Or “A League of Their Own,” at 10:30 on CMT.

5) ALSO: It’s strictly a true-crime night on CBS: A rerun of “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist” will be followed by two new episodes of “48 Hours.” And “Saturday Night Live” (11:29 p.m., NBC) repeats the Oct. 3 episode, with Dakota Johnson hosting and Turnstile as music guest.
