Strange old challenges on “Strange New Worlds”

It’s not easy to inhabit the strange old world of “Star Trek.”
Consider Rebecca Romijn, who plays First Officer Una Chin-Riley in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” (Thursdays on Paramount+). For this fourth season (shown here, with Uhura at the controls), she was busy learning to speak Klingon.
It was “a challenge I never knew I wanted,” she told the Television Critics Association. “But I really embraced it, because there are at least 20 people in the world who speak Klingon perfectly.” Read more…

“Halo,” “Trek” give Paramount its plus

The Paramount+ streaming service is ready to play with the big guys now.
That will be clear March 24, when the long-awaited (VERY long-awaited) “Halo” (shown here) arrives. Or May 5, when a new “Star Trek” series begins, shortly after two others return. Or sometime later, with new versions of “Frasier,” “Flashdance,” “Fatal Attraction” and more, including music-based “Grease” and “Urban Cowboy.”
“We’re taking some big swings,” said Nicole Clemens, the network’s president of original content.
And some little ones. At Television Critics Association sessions, the network said it’s renewing “SEAL Team,” “The Game” and “Mayor of Kingston”; that follows renewals of “Evil” and “The Good Fight.” Read more…

CBS mines familiar titles — “Grease” and “Trek”

The CBS people are turning to familiar titles – “Grease” and “Star Trek.”
For “Grease,” it will simply be a singalong version of the 1978 movie (shown here) with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. For “Trek,” however, CBS All Access will stream a series set on the Enterprise, a decade before the Kirk/Spock days. Details are: Read more…
