Best-bets for Aug. 11: Shows return; Jughead vanishes

1) “Riverdale” return, 8 p.m. CW. When we last saw this show, it seemed to have taken craziness to the limit. There was a jail break at the for-profit prison built by Veronica’s dad … and a fire … and escapees trashing Riverdale High … and a drug-crazed Jughead (really) wandering loose. And now? Things somehow get crazier – peaking with a psychedelic musical scene alongside a “Batman”-style fight. It’s all very well-done … but a long leap from the cheery Pop’s diner days (shown here) of the past. Read more…

2) “Family Game Fight,” 9:01 p.m., NBC. This should get a strong sampling, anyway. A half-hour version Sunday followed the Olympics; now the hour-long regular slot follows a results hour for “America’s Got Talent.” We get two likable teams (one of them with four moms from military families) plus clever, husband-wife hosts (Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell) and sharp games. It’s all kind of fun – or would be, if it weren’t for the hyper noise and commotion that engulfs every moment.

3) “MasterChef,” 8 p.m., Fox. Roy Choi, a leader of the food-truck surge, is the guest judge. It’s a new episode, followed at 9 by animated reruns. In the witty “Housebroken,” a raccoon is too wild for this therapy-for-pets group; in “Duncanville,” Duncan skips his SAT tests to be with his grifter uncle.

4) “The $100,000 Pyramid,” 9 p.m., ABC. After pausing for Olympic-time reruns, ABC’s games are back to new episodes. This one borrows someone from a Thursday game: Joe Tessitore of “Holey Moley” faces former football star Tiki Barber. Also, actors Ryan Eggold and Elizabeth Marvel face each other. That’s surrounded by “Press Your Luck” at 8 p.m. and “Card Sharks” at 10.

5) “Chicago P.D.,” 10 p.m., NBC. This show – the best of NBC’s three Chicago dramas – is another one returning from an Olympic lay-off. In this rerun, Upton immerses herself in a case involving brutal home-invasion robberies. She’s soon caught between her boss,Voight, and her colleague, Halstead.
