1) Emmy awards, 8 p.m. ET, NBC. Mariska Hargitay (shown here). not known for comedy, is this year’s host. Maybe there will be fun moments from the presenters, including Amy Poehler and Marcello Hernandez of “Saturday Night Live,” Keke Palmer, Dan Levy, Niecy Nash-Betts and Alan Cumming. Others include Sally Field, Macaulay Culkin and Zendaya.
2) Football, 8:15 p.m. ET, ABC, ESPN and ESPN2. The “Monday Night Football” season starts with two teams coming off opposite seasons. The Kansas City Chiefs, 6-11 last year, host the Denver Broncos, 14-3.
3) “All American,” 8 p.m., CW. As the showcase nears, KJ struggles with giving control back to Cassius. Meanwhile, Spencer is still missing and Coop and Amina scramble to bring Preach home. There’s a lot to settle (including the future for Jordan and Layla), with the series finale two weeks away.
4) “Name That Tune,” 8 and 9 p.m., Fox. Next Monday, this show and “The Weakest Link” will both launch their new seasons with celebrity editions. First, however, “Tune” has a couple of extra hours (not yet aired) from this past season. Jane Krakowski hosts, with Randy Jackson as music director.
5) “Independent Lens” season-opener, 10 p.m., PBS. Over a 27-year stretch, this has delivered 570 indie documentaries, many of them excellent. Only four new ones, scattered through the fall, have been announced, but they’re promising. Tonight, “Ghost in the Machine” looks at what its sees as the problematic past and future of artificial intelligence.
