Best-bets for Sept. 2: Lots (and lots) of football

1) College football. The first full Saturday of the season is stuffed with games, none of them pitting two nationally ranked teams. That starts at noon ET and continues into primetime, with 7:30 p.m. games on NBC (West Virginia at Penn State, which is ranked No. 7) … ABC (North Carolina, shown here, No. 21, at South Carolina) … and CBS (Texas Tech at Wyoming). 2) “The Great Chocolate Showdown,” 8 p.m., CW. Of the five major commercial networks, this is the only one that doesn’t have sports tonight. Next Saturday night, alas, it will join the crowd with an Atlantic Coast Conference football game. Tonight, however, it continues this sorta-pleasant Canadian show. Six bakers remain, divided into duos to make meringue towers. Then they must create a dessert with an international ingredient.

3) “Yellowstone,” 10 a.m., Paramount Network. Kevin Costner’s modern cowboy series keeps re-rerunning. In two weeks, CBS will make the reruns part of its Sunday line-up, starting with the first episode. But this cable channel (where “Yellowstone” started) moves first. Here’s the first season; the second one goes from 8:32 p.m. to 3 a.m., then continues at 10 a.m. Sunday.

4) “Shakespeare & Hathaway,” 7 and 8 p.m. ET, Ovation. This is the start of what was the third season in England. In the first hour, the private detectives are hired to close down an old bingo hall; in the second, a former rock star is convinced the devil is trying to kill him.

5) “Cruella” (2021), 6:10 p.m., Freeform. The “101 Dalmations” villain gets her own movie. It turns out that she’s misunderstood; also, she’s a skilled fighter. The story is so-so, but the visuals are great; “Cruella” won an Academy Award for its costumes and was nominated for its hair and makeup. Other movies range from “Frozen” (8 p.m., Disney) to action — “Spiderman: Homecoming.” 7 p.m. on FX, “John Wick” and its sequel, 6:30 and 8:33 on Bravo.
