Best-bets for April 17: quirky comedies and triple “Pyramid”

1) “Animal Control,” 9:02 p.m., Fox. The network’s only non-cartoon comedy has become a pleasant surprise, mixing brief animal sight gags and some solid character humor. Now we’re back to the dating woes of Frank (Joel McHale, shown here). Having flubbed the apps, he asks Emily to set him up. 1) “Animal Control,” 9:02 p.m., Fox. The network’s only non-cartoon comedy has become a pleasant surprise, mixing brief animal sight gags and some solid character humor. Now we’re back to the dating woes of Frank (Joel McHale, shown here). Having flubbed the apps, he asks Emily to set him up. Also, Patel and Shred try to do the remodeling work on their investment property.

2) “Family Guy,” 9:30 p.m., Fox, Some characters might time-travel to save the world; Brian does it in an effort to have sex. His new girlfriend feels her Christian religion bars her from premarital sex. Brian’s strategy – quite a stretch – is to go back in time and prevent Christianity from beginning.

3) “The $100,000 Pyramid,” 9:30-11 p.m., ABC. First, a new episode pits Ken Jennings (who is known for his vast knowledge) against Ross Mathews (who isn’t). Then come reruns: At 10 p.m., Matt James, the 2021 “Bachelor,” faces Tayshia Adams, who finished third in the 2019 “Bachelor.” At 10:30, Wendi McLendon-Covey (“The Goldbergs”) faces writer-actor Thomas Lennon.

4) Basketball, TNT. Here’s the second night of the pros’ “play-in” portion, with the 76ers and Heat at 7 p,m. ET and the Bulls and Hawks at 9:30 p.m.. The winner of the first game goes directly to the playoffs; on Friday, the loser of that game and the winner of tonight’s second game battle for the final playoff spot.

5) ALSO: At 8 p.m., Fox’s “Masked Singer” has the music of Queen; ABC’s “The Conners” has Darlene and her dad each trying ways to make extra money. At 9, ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” has Janine ponder one more goal before taking the school-district job; CW’s “Sight Unseen” sees mixed impact from Tess finally telling her former police partner that she’s going blind.
