1) “An Evening With Elton John and Brandi Carlile0” (shown here), 8 p.m. CBS. After hearing John’s music, Carlile taught herself to play the piano. Now the two have shared an Oscar nomination (for the song “Never Too Late”) and an album. In this hour, at London’s Palladium Theatre, they do songs from the album, plus his hits; they also pause for a conversation.
2) “The Americas,” 8 p.m., NBC. Along the 2,000-mile West Coast of the U.S. and Canada, we see dazzling sights. A salamander takes a 200-foot leap from a redwood tree. Anchovies form a huge “bait ball.” There’s an intimate view of a giant octopus sheltering her young and a sprawling look at blue whales racing, apparently to impress a potential mate.
3) “Call the Midwife,” 8 p.m., PBS. As the flower festival nears, wrapping up the mayor’s term, steep crises loom. One involves a bipolar pregnant woman; another has the nurses and staffers cautiously confront a social-disease outbreak. It’s a fairly good hour, followed by strong ones from “Wolf Hall” (warfare endangers Lady Mary) and “Marie Antoinette.”
4) “The Saints,” Fox Nation. This series, produced by Martin Scorsese, starts the three-week second half of its season. Tonight views Francis of Assisi, a rich and frivolous young man who changed his life after confronting the horror of war. Coming up are Moses the Black and Mary Magdalene.
5) ALSO: At 7 p.m., NBC reruns the excellent Amazon hour of “The Americas.” At 8, Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” sets up next week’s finale. And at 9, AMC’s “Dark Winds” finds the FBI agent (Jenna Elfman) showing up at Joe’s home, where his life is crumbling; also, his former deputy, now a border guard, takes her daring investigation into Mexico.
