Best-bets for July 2: bison, “Bear,” baseball

1) “The Americas: A Wild 250th,” 9 p.m., NBC. Lately, NBC has been rerunning the gorgeous “Americas” documentary series here. But now it pauses for a new hour: Two days before the 250th birthday, it focuses on creatures — bald eagles (the scene shown here is not from the film), bison, sea lions, etc. — that may symbolize the U.S. That follows a new “Surviving Earth” at 8.

2) “The Bear,” 9 p.m., FX. Amid the chaos — pounding rain, crumbling building, soaring reservations — there’s suddenly a pivotal moment. The result is slow, deep and quietly emotional … until life comes crashing through (literally). It’s a great episode, the third of eight in the final season. Or you can catch all eight right now on Hulu.

3) “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” 8 p.m., CBS. “Big Brother” arrives next Thursday, so this is our last chance for this full night of reruns. It goes from a funny “Georgie” (Mandy’s on-air remark stirs a fuss) to a fairly good “Elsbeth” (10 p.m.), with Annaleigh Ashford obsessing on her suburban Halloween.

4) “Independence Day” (1996), 8-11 p.m., ABC. The title seems to fit this weekend, anyway. Actually, this movie has little to do with July 4 and much to do with evil UFO’s and heroic pilots. Its plot is shabby, but it has Will Smith, Bill Pullman and lots of explosive action.

5) ALSO: This is soccer’s big time, with World Cup games at 3 and 7 p.m. ET on Fox and 11 on Fox Sports1. Still, it’s also baseball time. On Sunday, Peacock will have all 15 games; tonight. TruTV gets us in the mood, with the terrific “Field of Dreams” (1989), at 7 and 9:15 p.m.
