Best-bets for Aug. 25: poetic, talented stars

1) “American Masters,” 9-10:30 p.m., PBS. In her childhood, Mary Oliver (shown here in her early years) found despair at home and joy in nature. She became a poet at 15, worked on Edna St. Vincent Milay’s papers at 17, then became a Pulitzer Prize-winner and the best-selling American poet. This fascinating profile is filled with admirers, from Stephen Colbert to John Waters.

2) “America’s Got Talent,” 8-10 p.m., NBC. The live episodes continue, with 11 acts seeking semi-final spots on Sept. 15. Six are music acts and two are dancers, but there’s also magician Geno Ploeger, aerialist Veronica Goroshkova and “danger act” (with sword-swallowing) Brad & Tracy. Viewers vote, with the results Wednesday.

3) “Password,” 10 p.m., NBC. Two talk-show hosts compete, as Karamo Brown faces Jimmy Fallon. Brown is a “Queer Eye” regular and an author. He’s also had a talk show for four years, but that’s one of three daytime shows (with Steve Wilkos and “Access Hollywood”) that NBC is canceling.

4) “Jeopardy Masters,” 8 p.m., ABC. The quarter-finals begin, for a show that once seemed to only have white men. Now the contestants are Victoria Grace, Andrew He, Long Nguyen, Paolo Pasco, Yogesh Raut and Juveria Zaheer That’s followed by two hours of “Celebrity Family Feud” reruns.

5) MORE: You can catch two master filmmakers today: Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” (2008) is 6:25 p.m. on HBO; Rob Reiner’s “A Few Good Men” (1992) is 8 p.m. on BBC America. Also, CBS’ rerun night has “NCIS” at 8 pm., with “NCIS: Origins” at 9 and 10.
