1) Vienna Philharmonic, 9 p.m., PBS. Each year, PBS has a lush, end-of-summer concert (shown here), amid palace gardens. This time, Lorenzo Viotti, 36, a second-generation, Swiss conductor has a busy program, from a cavalry overture to encores with a high-octane Brazilian piece and a Strauss waltz. Also, baritone-bass Bryn Terfel ranges from Tevye to Satan.
2) Football, 8 p.m. ET, CBS. The Bengals and Eagles launch the final week of pre-season games; beginning Sept. 9, 10 and 13, everything will be for real. This is on a varied sports night, with NASCAR at 7:30 p.m. on CW and women’s college volleyball at 7 and 9 on Fox.
3) “Dark Matters” season-opener, Apple TV. In the first season, Jason (Joel Edgerton) was whisked to an alternate version of his life. Two years later, the second season begins; he’s back with his real life and real wife (Jennifer Connelly — for now. Also streaming today: Robert De Niro and Adam Scott in “The Whisper Man,” a Netflix thriller.
4) Steve Martin movies, Sundance. Here are some of the early ones, when Martin’s wit was fresh and flexible. There “The Jerk” (1979) at 3 p.m., “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” (1988) at 5, “Three Amigos” (1986) at 7:30 and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (1987) at 10. Then “Jerk” returns at midnight.
5) More: While ABC continues “Jeopardy Masters” at 8 p.m., one of its dramas is on Freeform: The first four “R.J. Decker” episodes rerun, from 7-11 p.m. Also, at 8 NBC reruns Tuesday’s “America Got Talent,” with 11 acts performing. At 8 ET, Turner Classic Movies has “To Kill a Mockingbird” (1962); it won Oscars for its script, sets and star (Gregory Peck).
