Best-bets for Sept. 3: a great night for comedy

1) “Adults,” 9 and 9:30 p.m., FX and FXX. Tonight’s first episode is funny; the second is wildly hilarious. 2) “Elsbeth,” 10 p.m., CBS. Here’s a rerun of the terrific season-opener. Stephen Colbert plays a talkshow host (which he used to be); Andy Richter plays a sidekick (which he used to be). Amy Sederis plays the producer for one and wife for the other (neither of which she is). It’s sharp and fun.

3) “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” 9 p.m., CBS. After being bumped last week by the expanded, 1,000th “Big Brother,” this offers a good rerun: Georgie definitely needs bookkeeping help — igniting the feud between his mom and his mother-in-law, both of whom have accounting skills.

4) Football. This is the first full week of the college season, with 11 Division I games today, eight Friday, a deluge Saturday and even three Sunday and one Monday. On national TV today, there are 8 p.m. ET games on ESPN (Colorado-Georgia Tech) and Peacock (Eastern Illinois-Minnesota).

5) MOVIES: “Scary Movie” — the sixth scare-satire from the Wayans brothers — reaches Paramount+ today, Critics disliked it, but it thrived ($231 million) at the box office. Also: The Oscar-winning “Birdman” (6:56 p.m., HBO); the gorgeous, non-cartoon “Cinderella” (7:30, Freeform); and the sharp baseball tale “Moneyball” (8 p.m., BBC America).
