Best-bets for July 20: Moon, moon, moon (and “SNL”)

1) Moon documentaries, everywhere. On the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, cable is busy. Discovery has “Apollo: The Forgotten Films” at 8 p.m. and “Confessions From Space” at 10. BBC America uses CBS’ original reports as the core, from 9-11 p.m. ET, rerunning at 2 a.m. At 9 p.m. ET, CNN reruns its “Apollo 11” movie (repeating at 11). 2) Moon movies, cable. You can catch a double-feature of true stories, skillfully told. “Hidden Figures” (2016, 5-8 p.m., FXX), an Oscar-nominee for best picure, tells of the black women who became key NASA mathemaricians; “First Man” (2018, 8 p.m., HBO, rerunning at 12:25 a.m.), shown here, has Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy as Neil and Janet Armstrong. Also, BBC America has a marathon: “The Right Stuff” (1983) at 11:30 a.m. ET, “Gravity” (2013) at 4 p.m., “Space Cowboys” (2000) at 6 and 11.

3) “Bring the Funny,” 8 p.m., NBC. Two networks have switched their rerun plans for tonight. NBC is going wih “Funny,” its new comedy competiion. Then ABC has game shows — “Press Your Luck” att 9 p.m. and “Card Sharks” at 10.

4) “Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Jams McAvoy has done lots of serious British movies (including “Atonement”), but he was also Charles Xavier in two “X-Men” movies and had the title role in “Victor Frankenstein.” He hosts this rerun, with Meek Mill as the music guest.

5) More moon. Yes, there’s more, on news channels and beyond. Smithsonian reruns “America’s Space Heroes” from 2-5 p.m. and “Apollo Moon Shot” from 5-9 p.m.; the latter’s hour about crises on Apollo 12 and 13 will air at 1 and 10 p.m. Families can catch the hourlong special from the cartoon “Ready, Jet, Go!”; that’s 7 and 9 p.m. on the digital PBS Kids. And Walter Cronkite’s original reports rerun precisely 50 years later on www.cbsnews.com/live; the landing is 4:17 p.m. ET, the first steps are 10:56.
