1) Congressional hearings, 8 p.m. ET, CBS, ABC, news channels and more. The second primetime hearing for the House’s Jan. 6 committee is expected to focus on a specific question: What was happening in the White House, during the 187 minutes, from the time violence (shown here) began to President Trump’s request that protesters go home. For CBS, the coverage will bump two comedies and move“Big Brother” to a two-hour bloc Sunday, delayhing “Secret Celebrity Renovation” for a week. ABC bumps its game shows; also, it’s ABC News Live streamer starts related documentaries at 4 p.m. ET
2) “Top Gear,” 10 p.m., BBC America. This starts with a jaunt through the era when cars starred in TV crime shows. Many, we’re told, were product-placement deals, with some glitches: Porsche refused to do an open-top adaptation, so Magnum drove a Ferrari. Some shows avoided links; Inspector Morse’s Jaguar came from a junkyard. After lots of driving; the hosts proclaim the “Starsky and Hutch” gaudy Charger to be hot and “the least-undercover car” in history.
3) “Welcome to Flatch” and “Call Me Kat,” 9:01 and 9:30 p.m., Fox. When CBS dumped its 9 p.m. and 9:30 comedies, it left a laugh void. Now Fox has filled it with these shows – reruns now and new episodes in the fall. “Kat” is pleasant enough, without being more; tonight, Kat (Mayim Bialik) eyes the perfect anniversary. “Flatch” is more difficult,, with its droll, clever humor. Tonight, Shrub is caught doing graffiti and sent to an art class.
4) “The Captain,” 9 p.m., ESPN. The ESPN people are trying to make the All-Star Game feel like a week-long holiday. On Monday they had the Home Run Derby and the opener of this seven-part film about Derek Jeter. Now (after Wednesday’s ESPY awards), it reruns the Jeter preview and opener at 7:30 and 8 p.m., then debuts the second chapter at 9. At 10 is the Giants-Dodgers game in Dodger Stadium, the site of the All Star game.
5) “The Old Man” season-finale, 10 p.m., FX. This compelling series started with Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) on his own, hiding from his CIA past. Now that past encases him. Hamzad, the Afghan warlord, has kidnapped his daughter and demands Chase in exchange. Groping for a way to help are Chase’s new lover (Amy Brenneman) and his former pursuer (John Lithgow).
