Now for some good news: Two of my favorite TV pleasures – “Resident Alien” and Annaleigh Ashford – will be returning.
Not together (which would be interesting), but giving us a couple things to look forward to. “Resident Alien” (shown here) starts its season Feb. 14; Ashford’s “Happy Face” arrives sometime next year. Details include:
— “Resident Alien” is a rare cocktail of comedy, drama and (especially) fantasy.
Alan Tudyk plays a being sent here to kill everyone on the planet. His ship crashes, he can’t find his kill-everyone device, so he must improvise.
He kills a local doctor and assumes his physical form. Also, he finds that he sort of likes some of these Earthlings.
Now the third season will start at 10 p.m. on Valentine’s Day. It’s on Syfy, but the opener will also be on the USA Network. The first two seasons are on Peacock, where new episodes will go after they air; the second will also have a Feb. 11 marathon on Syfy.
— “Happy Face” is based on the true story of Melissa Moore, who found a stable adult life (and a podcast), despite a jolt: At 15, she learned that her father was a serial killer.
It will arrive next year on Paramount+ and star Ashford, who has been busy. She’s a Tony-winner who starred for two seasons in CBS’ “B Positive,” then went on to key roles in two mini-series, one about the Chippendale dancers, the other (as Paula Jones) about Monica Lewinsky.
