1) “St. Denis Medical,” 8 p.m., NBC. Dr. Ron suggests (gently) that weight-loss would ease a patient’s knee problem. He’s accused of fat-shaming; soon, the nurses (shown here) have dizzying journey through online reviews. A second story – Bruce pondering a high school bully – is mostly sad, but the main one reminds us that this is one of the year’s best new shows.
2) “Great Migrations,” 9 p.m., PBS. As the 1940s began, defense-industry jobs soared. Four million Southerners moved North or West, including 1.4 million Blacks. Under pressure, Franklin Roosevelt signed fair-employment acts. This second of three hours shows progress, especially with Detroit and Motown records, and points toward trouble in the ‘70s.
3) “Finding Your Roots,” 8 p.m., PBS. Two master chefs eye their ancestors. Jose Andres learns of a foundling who propelled a family of educated professionals. Sean Sherman, whose roots are 44-percent native, learns of a Black “Buffalo Soldier” who fought native Americans … then married one and launched native generations.
4) “Will Trent,” 8 p.m., ABC. Now that the winter breaks have finished, viewers can find new cop shows all night Tuesdays on CBS (FBI ones) and ABC. The latter starts with Faith’s mom returning to town and having her past catch up with her. “High Potential” and “The Rookie” follow.
5) “The Joe Schmo Show,” 9 p.m., TBS. After a couple of clever episodes, this one has a poorly conceived stunt. The idea is to make one likable chap think this is a reality show, when he’s actually surrounded by actors. It’s a fine notion, semi-botched by a twist that makes no sense.
