If you’re keeping track of new shows on broadcast-TV channels this fall, here’s a surprise:
The tiny CW network is third on the list, topping both ABC and Fox.
That’s because CW will have one new show — “Private Eyes West Coast” (shown here), announced today (Aug. 17). ABC and Fox will have none until mid-season.
The CW show is a spin-off of “Private Eyes,” a Canadian series (with some seasons on the Ion network in the U.S.) that had Jason Priestly and Cindy Sampson as private detectives in Toronto.
That show ran for five seasons and 60 episodes, ending in 2021. In the new version, they quit their firm, move west … and promptly come across an apparent murder scene.
The 10-episode season starts Oct. 5, alongside the second season of “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.” The CW has other Canadian shows — “Wild Cards” (from the “Private Eyes” producers) and “Sullivan’s Crossing” — plus “Sherlock & Daughter,” an American production filmed in Ireland.
And new shows this fall? Here’s the scorecard:
— NBC, 3. “Life of Fire” (debuting Sept. 21) and “Newlyweds” (Oct. 23), plus a “Traitors” spin-off (Sept. 17) that’s the lone new reality show this fall.
— CBS, 2. “Eternally Yours” and “Cupertino” (both Oct. 8).
— CW, 1: “Private Eyes West Coast” (Oct. 5).
— ABC and Fox: 0.
More shows will debut mid-season, including some familiar titles. There will be reboots of “Baywatch” on Fox and “Rockford Files” on NBC; also, ABC will have spin-offs of “The Rookie” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
