1) Football season-opener, 8:20 p.m. ET Wednesday, NBC. The pros are back, ready to gobble up our TV time. There’s a pre-game show at 7 p.m. and then a Super Bowl rematch, with the Seahawks (shown here last season) and Patriots. The next day, Netflix has the 49ers and Rams at 8:35. Then a stuffed Sunday will be capped by the Cowboys and Giants, at 8:20 p.m. on NBC.
2) “America’s Got Talent,” 8-11 p.m. Tuesday, NBC. With all of that football, there’s no room for two nights of “AGT.” Instead, everything will be packed into one crowded evening. At 8, we’ll see four music acts, three comedians, a magician, an acrobat, and dancing robots. At 10, we’ll learn which ones will advance to the semi-finals next week.
3) Sept. 11 events, Friday. At 8:30 a.m. ET, networks will cover ceremonies marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks. Later, CBS has “9/11: We Remember” at 8 p.m. and “Daughters of 9/ll” from 9-11. Also, ABC views “Tribute in Light” at 8, with a documentary rerun at 9; National Geographic has reruns all day, including “9/11: Reunited,” from 6-8 p.m.
4) “Jeopardy Masters,” 8 p.m. Tuesday, ABC. It’s time to find the champion. On Monday (8-11 p.m.), ABC reruns the episodes that set this up. Then Tuesday decides the $500,000 winner. Want more contests? At 8 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, both Fox shows — “MasterChef” and the fun “Nation’s Dumbest” — set up their finales, a week later.
5) “Star Trek Day,” Tuesday. That’s the show’s 60th anniversary. The H&I digital channel has already started rerunning all 79 hours, in order. That continues until 6 a.m. Tuesday, then is nightly (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) until 2 a.m. Saturday. Also, Paramount+ has every episode, 13 movies and six spin-offs — including a new “Strange New Worlds” episode Thursday.
6) “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga” debut, 9 p.m. Tuesday, FX. “Snowfall” was a terrific series that somehow got us to root for a guy forging a drug empire. This new show is more relatable: Drugs and violence are still involved, but the focus is on music. A steel-willed young woman and her teen-prodigy cousin tackle the rap world in 1990s Los Angeles.
7) More FX. While others have pre-season slumbers, FX is busy: At 9 p.m. Monday, an erratic (but funny) “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” visits a Renaissance fair. At 9 p.m. Wednesday, the “Shards” season-finale will leave viewers perplexed and bitter. And at 9 and 9:36 p.m. Thursday, “Adults” tries room-swaps and career-shifts, with funny results.
8) “Resolve to Solve” finale, 10 p.m Wednesday, PBS. It’s the most personal and most powerful episode, as Miles O’Brien views research into the brain. The first half looks at addictions; in the second, O’Brien — whose arm was amputated — views the intense “phantom” pain that can come from a missing limb. The result is both informative and emotional.
9) “Colin From Accounts” final season, Thursday, Paramount+. Here’s an Australian gem, written by the married duo of Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer. They play a former couple who may or may not get back together. All eight episodes (most of them clever and quirky) arrive together. One day earlier, Brammall stars in the intense “Last Seen” on Apple.
10) ALSO: On Wednesday, Peacock offers the entire second season of “The Paper”; in its slow, droll way, it’s funny and likable. At 9 p.m. Thursday, CBS offers a peak at its new season … which is still a month away. And at 8 p.m. Sunday, PBS’ “Marlow Murder Club” has a solid ending to the first of this season’s three two-part mysteries.
